How to beat the gloomy economic situation

What is the world becoming is in everyone's mind nowadays. A roller-coaster ride of oil price hike and suddenly a down turn, and big corporations were got in the middle of the havoc. Every country in the world is effected, jobs gone and some stock market shares turn into papers literally. And how has it affect you?

You can forget about pay raise for this few years as it will take years for recovery. It's all about how you gonna maintain and survive this few years. Companies has stop investing in new projects or put on hold until they can see a clearer future ahead. We have nowhere to go but to find other means of income to support ourselves. My job and business has been affected too when the US corporation crumbled because indirectly we source products for manufacturers for the US market. They are directly affected and we are indirectly hit too.

The internet business is nothing new to me, I have been in this line for awhile now but I didn't really work on it until lately when I realise that the economy will not recover so soon so it's best to find another alternative to survive this gloomy world now.

Big investment is out of the question, so we have to find some simple small business to do. Something that is simple and cheap and earns daily. We just want to make ends meet or make some side income while we still work our 9-5 jobs.

I have designed a very simple and cheap business to do while we wait for the economic storm to clear. Hey, who knows this small business could even be our main source of income one day.

DFC's 3rd anniversary 7th Nov. 2008

I guess some of you readers may not know what is DFC, well DFC means Danell's fanclub and it is our 3rd year where fans of Danell popularly know as the "pinkies" celebrate with Danell.

I am glad the club is still strong and intact hehe after so many years without any proper committee but we just do it because we love to. We have all become friends and once in awhile we would come together to meet and have some fun.

And this year, we held our celebration at Novotel Hydro Majestic Hotel right in the middle of the city center. A cosy setting at the 1st level, we rented the hall with some buffet dinner servings and we all had lots of fun.


and we had a cake cutting ceremony to mark the celebration of our 3rd anniversary. Together with me is my wife (a.swan), Danell (my son) and Ms Sue from Sony BMG (Danell's management company)



















and here is our group picture of all the fans who attended the celebration night. Though quite a few did not turn up due to last minute changes but I know they wish they could be here with us. We all know when we are together, it is always fun and laughter.

I have just donated 2,020 grains of rice

What better way to learn and donate to help the hungry at the same time.
By playing this game, I learn new words and I have donated 2,020 grains. Well it's not alot but if we do it everyday spending a few minutes a day learning new words that will be beneficial to us and at the same time, donating grains of rice to feed the hungry. Now if we imagine the number of people all over the world learning and clicking away to donate each time we answer a question, it will run into billions of grains of rice. As to date, 52 billion grains of rice have been donated this way.

Walking down memory lane

Some 8 years ago, this was my residence, The regency supercondo at Gurney drive. You know life is like that, when we were staying there, we seldom go out to eat at those famous hawker stalls over there and its just walking distance away. All those years staying over there, I think I use the swimming pool only once ! Again, life's like that, when you don't have it, you want it but when it's there to for you to use for free.. we don't bother.

The famous Gurney drive "Penang fried koay teow" where you have to queue for turn to collect your orders. Sometimes the queue is so long that they will give you a warning first that you have to wait for 1/2 hour and ask whether you can wait. If you can't they will thank you and sorry... and say come back next time.







and here Song river cafe, one of my favourite cafe for breakfast those days when we have friends from out station, we will bring them to this cafe. Penang's famous "Bak Kut teh" and the fried "lala"

I have seen this movie several times already and everytime when I watch, I would still laugh at the comedy part of the movie. But this movie is more then a comedy, if you can understand the essence of what the movie is all about.

His simple life makes us feel that life should be lived in this way. Simple and enjoyable and you will seem to have everything you ever need.

He wants nothing and he willingly gives everything. He can have everything we normal people yearns to have but it's means nothing to him. His purity and pure love radiates and everyone could feel it.

If you want to enjoy everything in your life, you must yearn for nothing..

Terubok Sarawak

Popularly known as Terubok Sarawak, this fish and its process in Kuching has given its name. Being an importer and exporter of fish, we know that Terubok Sarawak comes from Myanmar, we call it as hilsa fish and we export a lot of them to Kuching, Sarawak to be made into salted fish.

We studied into the market of this fish as to why is it so in demand in Kuching but we realise that most of the customers are from West Malaysia. I tried to market them in Kuala Lumpur but realize that the demand of the fish was not there. As we looked deeper in the market, we came to realise that most of the sales are at the airport and finally we found the answer. Terubok Sarawak is more like a tourist product, people from West Malaysia goes to East Malaysia and when they come back home, they will back some back since we cannot find them in West Malaysia so this species is a best buy at the airport. Airport being very strategic location since there is only one way back and every west malaysian have to pass thru' so the airport is the best place to sell such products.

Now I have found another way to sell it...
By postage and we have decided why not try to market it this way. Terubok Sarawak cannot be sold in the market. One thing it cannot last and another thing is that it is not a meal where we take everyday but just occasionally.

I have traveled far and wide visiting a lot of remote areas around Asia sourcing for fish and I am going to tell you this.. it is most shameful of me, I never knew it existed..

It is my very 1st time in my entire life that I visited this place - Water View Restaurant which is only minutes from my office in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah if not for the customs and immigration clearance at the border between Malaysia & Thailand.

It is one of the best Thai dinners I had ever had in years.
The Kaengsom fish with coconut shoots and long beans with the "killer bomb" spicy flavor, just looking at it you will sweat and one sip... mmmmm yummy you have to say "aarrrhhh" after sipping it or else you will cough hahahaha


And this is the dessert "ulam" just plain raw vegetables and a small bowl of "dynamite" sauce








and ooh the oysters, really fresh and delicious









and here is goose beaks but they call it duck beaks. Nope you are not suppose to eat the beaks but nibble like a mouse on the bits of skin remains on the beak... ya tasty..








a cool breeze and lovely scenery, gosh all these years, I didn't know it existed.. wow I will frequent this place as my friends from outstation comes,, this is the best place to take them to dine.

Those are huts where you can dine and have a couple of beers

Good food, cool weather, nice scenery and you can just relax and enjoy.

The whole lake is so big and all the huts are scattered all round the lake side, well, they have a unqiue way to serve you..."speedboats" cowboy waiters!! and making orders?... walky talky !!
No wonder our orders are so fast...
Well, that is the success story of this place...great ideas.







From our huts we could see the kitchen across the other side of the lake and you can see further down there are more huts for customers to dine. The whole place could accommodate hundreds of customers at one time..
You see the small hut beside the kitchen is the serving area where the speed boats will come and collect the dishes and speed to the huts to serve.
And there will be waitress along batches of huts to collect and serve.



Look at the size of the lake and how scattered are the huts to serve, they have found the fastest way to serve. You know what, they even serve faster then the ordinary restaurants in town. hehe





and when night falls, you can see the lovely lake with colored reflection of wriggling lights everywhere... a lovely evening at Water View Restaurant , situated in the middle of nowhere in the jungles along the Malaysian Thai border.

Nowadays children are not stuck to TV or cartoon shows on TV. What you see is the damaging effects of U-tube. Every home now has computers, it's like a part of our furnitures and it is on all the time and the streamyx is never off and the first thing when they come home.. it's U-TUBE !!!
There are tonnes of Ultra man clips on U-tube, you can pick and choose and repeat & repeat & repeat... Now even with 3 spoon you can become Ultra-man !! hahaha

Well, we double checked again with him, he said he was an "elephant" hahahaa
sorry... hehe

The lord works in mysterious ways

9 Months Later...

Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Jack's mini van and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night.

"I realize its terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed," she explained. "I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house."

"Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light." The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing.

But about nine months later, Jack got an unexpected letter from an attorney.
It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend.

He dropped in on his friend Bob and asked, "Bob, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?"

"Yes, I do." said Bob

"Did you, er, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?"

"Well, um, yes," Bob said, a little embarrassed about being found out,

"I have to admit that I did."

"And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?"

Bob's face turned beet red and he said, "Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm
afraid I did. Why do you ask?"

"She just died and left me everything."

I have been trying to understand this kids nowadays, what so special about all this painful insertion into their skin to display themselves.

My son came home with a pin on his eyebrow, and my grandson curious wondering what was that... just pluck it out from his brows and he began to bleed... *sigh* why all this nonsense.

Gosh, not enough of human sufferings? they add more pain to those nipples. I am sure there are better ways to keep your locks and keys in a safer place. How about put them in your pockets...
